Friday Five

1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
It’s pretty much straight but starting to get wavier. It’s about a few inches past my shoulders and I’m trying to grow it longer.

2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
I was a towhead when I was younger and my hair has darkened to a light brown. I’ve hennaed it a few times so I also have some reddish highlights mixed in.

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
Pulled back up off my face, either in a bun or French-braid (“freedom-braid” is just lame) or a ponytail.

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
Longer and hennaed

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
My perm in 7th grade made my hair look like it should be on a poodle. I got called “poodle locks” for weeks by some morons in my gym class.

**UPDATE** My Internet started working again on Friday night.

  1. Wow. After several hard days and hard posts from you, I was strangely relieved to just see a Friday Five on mundane stuff like hair. I’ve been holding you, and Jon, in my prayers out here.

A few years ago, I was volunteering at an HIV/AIDS project, and within 1 week we had two of our volunteers die. One of them had been very actively involved in the project right up until the last few days, and with the funerals, the plans, the legal stuff, their families, we were exhausted. I remember feeling angry at Timothy and Adrienne for dying on us and leaving us with so much bloody work to do… Get some sleep, sister.

  2. I’m dealing actually pretty well because I didn’t know two of them by anything other than name. The one I did know was someone I pretty much said “hi” to on Sunday. She was also old and suffering from Alzheimer’s. I went to the funeral for her and I did it mostly to get closure because I knew that I needed something ritualistic to do so.

Mostly… I’m tired from just being physically active. Jon and his supervisor Bill are both physically and emotionally tired. I’m praying hard for Bill because he lost 3 of his good friends when these people died on Sunday and it’s hard to have to be a stoic pastor while grieving.

On the upside, D (my heart patient) has survived 48 hours and could possibly make a full recovery.

  3. Friday 5’s are so fun to read. I have spent a few hours going around to friend’s websites just reading these. Thanks for the great stuff to read all the time on your blog Jen.

  4. I looked back and saw my typos. I do apologize for those. Friday 5’s are great was my point, not sure what I was trying to say.
